CT and FDG-PET radiologic biomarkers in p16+ oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients treated with definitive chemoradiotherapy

CT and FDG-PET radiologic biomarkers in p16+ oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma patients treated with definitive chemoradiotherapy: Survival among patients with human papilloma virus (HPV)-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) is superior to those with non-HPV-associated OPSCC [1–3]. This is reflected in the most recent staging system, in which HPV-associated OPSCC is considered as a separate entity with unique TNM staging among head and neck cancers [4,5]. Although the standard of care treatment remains the same regardless of tumor HPV status, de-escalation of therapy for HPV-associated OPSCC is being actively investigated [6–13].
