Author’s response to letter to the editor “regarding JHAM Kaanders et al. “Advances in cancer imaging require renewed radiotherapy dose and target volume concepts”
We appreciate the interest and comments by doctors Liang and Chien on our article “Advances in cancer imaging require renewed radiotherapy dose and target volume concepts”.[1] They bring up the debate about elective nodal irradiation (ENI) in lung cancer and argue that minimization of ENI is already practice in this disease. We agree with their remarks but the history of this approach in lung cancer is different from that in head and neck cancer.

Response Letter: Radiation therapy for COVID-19 pneumopathy
Trott and colleagues wrote an editorial [1] on our manuscript in which we argue that in the absence of supportive pre-clinical or clinical data for using radiation therapy for viral pneumonia, the risks of low dose thoracic radiotherapy make clinical trials testing radiation therapy as a treatment for COVID-19 pneumonia unacceptable [2]. Trott et al. concur with our interpretation of the available pre-clinical data testing low dose radiotherapy in animal models of viral pneumonia: “They really do...

Radiotherapy for COVID-19: Primum non nocere
Several proposals had been suggested for the use of low dose radiation to treat COVID-19 patients [12]. This was quickly followed by suggestions for low dose total body irradiation [3]. We urge caution and careful examination of the evidence and logistics of low dose radiotherapy in COVID-19 patients.
