We continue to fail black children with asthma and allergic disease

We continue to fail black children with asthma and allergic disease: Black children have higher prevalence of asthma and increased rates of asthma morbidity and mortality than white children, which has been documented for decades, and this disparity remains persistent.1 In this issue of the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, Sitarik et al2 describe their study that determined whether disparities associated with asthma and allergy observed between black and white children at the age of 2 years remained at the age of 10 years. They found that at 10 years, black children were still more likely to have eczema, asthma, and allergen sensitization compared with white children, even when controlling for socioeconomic status.
