Genetic signatures for lineage/sublineage classification of HPV16, 18, 52 and 58 variants [NEW RESULTS]
Increasing evidences indicate that high-risk HPV variants are heterogeneous in carcinogenicity and ethnic dispersion. In this work, we identified genetic signatures for convenient determination of lineage/sublineage of HPV16, 18, 52 and 58 variants. Using publicly available genomes, we found that E2 of HPV16, L2 of HPV18, L1 and LCR of HPV52, and L2, LCR and E1 of HPV58 contain the proper genetic signature for lineage/sublineage classification. Sets of hierarchical signature nucleotide positions...

A Darker Side to Retinoic Acid Revealed by Sarcomas
Monocytes, macrophages, and myeloid dendritic cells are central to the host response to cancer, and generally not in a good way. Tumor-associated macrophages, often the most abundant cells in tumor microenvironments, are recruited and "corrupted" by malignant cells to aid the growth and spread of…

Cytocompatibility of filling pastes by primary teeth root simulating model
Abstract Evaluate the cytocompatibility of Calen®/ZO, Calcicur®, Vitapex®, Endoflas®, and zinc oxide/eugenol-based (ZOE) root canal pastes (RCP) to human primary osteoblasts (HPO) through a simplified model for primary teeth. The model employed pipette tips filled with 0.037 g of paste, exposed to 185 µL of culture medium for 24 h (n = 6). Release of components was analysed by Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (1H-NMR). HPO were exposed to conditioned media for 24 h....

Consequences of space sharing on individual phenotypes in the New Zealand hihi
Abstract In heterogeneous habitats, individuals sharing a larger part of their home-range are also likely to live in a very similar environment. This ‘common environment’ effect can generate phenotypic similarities between neighbours and lead to the structuring of phenotypes through the habitat. In this study, we used an intensely monitored population of hihi (or stitchbird, Notiomystis cincta) from New Zealand, to assess whether home-range overlap and genetic relatedness between...

Genetic Variants and Mutational Spectrum of Chinese Hermansky‐Pudlak Syndrome Patients
Summary Hermansky‐Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is a rare recessive disorder characterized by oculocutaneous albinism or ocular albinism, bleeding diathesis, and other symptoms such as colitis and pulmonary fibrosis. Eleven causative genes have been identified for HPS‐1~HPS‐11 subtypes in humans. We have identified 16 newly reported patients including the first HPS‐2 case in the Chinese population. In a total of 40 HPS patients, hypopigmentation was milder in HPS‐3, HPS‐5 and HPS‐6 patients than in HPS‐1...

Pain response and quality of life assessment in patients with moderate/severe neuropathic pain due to bone metastasis undergoing treatment with palliative radiotherapy and tapentadol: A prospective multicentre pilot study
Abstract Introduction To assess pain response rate (RR) and quality of life (QoL), in patients with moderate/severe neuropathic pain (NP) due to bone metastasis (BM) undergoing palliative 3D radiotherapy plus tapentadol. Methods We conducted a prospective multicentre pilot study. Patients were assessed before radiotherapy using the validated questionnaire (Douleur Neuropathique en 4 questions). Response to radiotherapy (8 Gy–30 Gy/1–10fr) at one and two months was assessed according the...

Haar wavelet transform–based optimal Bayesian method for medical image fusion
Abstract Image fusion (IF) attracts the researchers in the areas of the medical industry as valuable information could be afforded through the fusion of images that enable the clinical decisions to remain effective. With the aim to render an effective image fusion, this paper concentrates on the Bayesian fusion approach, which is tuned optimally using the proposed Fractional Bird Swarm Optimization (Fractional-BSA). The medical image fusion is progressed using the MRI brain image...

Direct and indirect selection on mate choice during pollen competition: Effects of male and female sexual traits on offspring performance following two‐donor crosses
Abstract Mate choice in plants is poorly understood, in particular its indirect genetic benefits, but also the direct benefits of avoiding harmful matings. In the herb Collinsia heterophylla , delayed stigma receptivity has been suggested to enhance pollen competition, potentially functioning as a female mate choice trait. Previous studies show that this trait can mitigate the cost of early fertilization caused by pollen, thus providing a direct benefit. We performed two‐donor pollinations during...

Journal of Investigative Medicine High Impact Case Reports, Volume 8, Issue , January-December 2020. Little is known about the effects of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) on pregnant women, fetuses, and neonates, especially when the virus is contracted early in pregnancy. The literature is especially lacking on the effects of SARS-CoV-2 on extremely preterm (<28 weeks gestation) infants who have underdeveloped immune systems. We report the case of an extremely preterm,...

An Examination and Critique of Current Methods to Determine Exercise Intensity
Abstract Prescribing the frequency, duration, or volume of training is simple as these factors can be altered by manipulating the number of exercise sessions per week, the duration of each session, or the total work performed in a given time frame (e.g., per week). However, prescribing exercise intensity is complex and controversy exists regarding the reliability and validity of the methods used to determine and prescribe intensity. This controversy arises from the absence of...
