Identification of hub methylated‐CpG sites and associated genes in oral squamous cell carcinoma
Construction of comethylation network associated with oral squamous cell carcinoma status by WGCNA. Dendrogram of consensus module eigengenes obtained by WGCNA on the consensus correlation. Seven modules were generated after merging according to the correlation of modules. Abstract To improve personalized diagnosis and prognosis for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) by identification of hub methylated‐CpG sites and associated genes, weighted gene comethylation network analysis (WGCNA) was performed...

Expression profiles of miRNAs in giant cell tumor of bone showed miR‐187‐5p and miR‐1323 can regulate biological functions through inhibiting FRS2
Our team had performed the microarrays on three groups of giant cell tumors of bone. And we found some aberrant expression of microRNAs, including miR‐187‐5p and miR‐1323. Then, we examined the two miRNAs' effects on giant cell tumor of bone. Abstract Background Giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is considered to be a kind of borderline tumor, which has a tendency to recur and translocate. MicroRNAs are one type of small noncoding RNA, which can inhibit the translation of targeted mRNA through...

Machine Learning techniques in breast cancer prognosis prediction: A primary evaluation
Machine Learning (ML) allows us to discover relations between prognostic factors and to predict breast cancer prognosis. These models might become an additional resource in our daily clinical practice. Abstract More than 750 000 women in Italy are surviving a diagnosis of breast cancer. A large body of literature tells us which characteristics impact the most on their prognosis. However, the prediction of each disease course and then the establishment of a therapeutic plan and follow‐up tailored...

Next‐generation sequencing for BCR‐ABL1 kinase domain mutations in adult patients with Philadelphia chromosome‐positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia: A position paper
This consensus paper presents the results of an initiative by an expert panel to define a set of indications for the practical use of next‐generation sequencing for BCR‐ABL1 kinase domain mutation screening in Philadelphia‐positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia patients receiving tyrosine kinase inhibitor‐based therapies. Minimal technical and methodological requirements for the analysis and the reporting of results have also been proposed. Abstract Emergence of clones carrying point mutations in...

Patient reported symptoms associated with quality of life during chemo‐ or immunotherapy for bladder cancer patients with advanced disease
For bladder cancer patients, psychological items have a strong impact on the quality of life while urinary items have a weak impact on the quality of life. Toxicity reporting from clinical trials and supportive care in daily practice may be incomplete and not reflective of the full picture of symptomatology for bladder cancer patients. Abstract Background Bladder cancer (BC) patients with advanced disease have poor outcomes. The use of patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) could lead to improvements...

Combination of inflammatory score/liver function and AFP improves the diagnostic accuracy of HBV‐related hepatocellular carcinoma
The major HBV‐HCC Chinese patients had poor prognosis due to late diagnosis. Improved detecting HBV‐HCC at early stage may improve the prognosis of patients. AFP displays relatively low sensitivity and high false‐positivity in diagnosis of HCC. The diagnostic performance of AFP plus ALT, AST, NLR in HBV‐HCC was significantly better than single or any other combinations. Such finding might be useful in improving accuracy of diagnosis for HBV‐HCC. Abstract Background Alpha‐fetoprotein (AFP), routinely...

Prognostic significance of the radiologic features of pneumonitis induced by anti‐PD‐1 therapy
Interstitial lung disease (ILD) induced by anti‐programmed‐cell death‐1 (PD‐1) is potentially life‐threatening and radiologic patterns of ILD may reflect the severity of ILD and the antitumor immune responses to anti‐PD‐1 therapies. The current study demonstrated that patients who developed ground glass opacities exhibited worse outcomes among non‐small‐cell lung cancer patients treated with anti‐PD‐1 therapies. Abstract Background Interstitial lung disease (ILD) induced by anti‐programmed‐cell...

Predicting the effect of 5‐fluorouracil–based adjuvant chemotherapy on colorectal cancer recurrence: A model using gene expression profiles
We have developed an SVM‐GA model to predict the effect of 5‐fluorouracil (5‐Fu) based adjuvant chemotherapy(ACT) on recurrence in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients in this article. This model can help clinicians optimize their decision making for CRC patients who are suitable for 5‐Fu based ACT and avoid the adverse effect of chemotherapy on patients who are predicted to be ACT‐futile. ABSTRACT It is critical to identify patients with stage II and III colorectal cancer (CRC) who will benefit from...
