J Investig Allergol Clin Immunol. 2019;29(3):231-238 Authors: Kalm-Stephens P, Nordvall L, Janson C, Neuman Å, Malinovschi A, Alving K Abstract BACKGROUND: Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is a marker of type-2 inflammation in the airways. Elevated FeNO may precede the development of allergic disease. The aim of...

J Asthma. 2019 03;56(3):303-310 Authors: Cohen RI, Ye X, Ramdeo R, Liu SF Abstract BACKGROUND: Mechanisms underlying the association between asthma and obesity remain poorly understood. Obesity appears to be a risk factor for asthma, and obese asthmatics fare poorly compared to lean asthmatics. OBJECTIVES: To explore the possibility that reduced...

Primary cutaneous localized/clearly‐outlined true histiocytic sarcoma: Two long‐term follow‐up cases
Abstract Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare hematopoietic tumor that mainly involves extranodal sites, including the intestinal tract, skin, soft tissues and other organs. It is well known as an aggressive neoplasm that shows a poor response to therapy. However, a subset of patients with resectable disease has shown a favorable outcome with surgical treatment. Primary cutaneous HS is exceedingly rare and, to date, its long‐term prognosis has thus not been well described. Here, we highlight two...

Differences in dermoscopic findings between early and mature clear cell acanthoma
Abstract Clear cell acanthoma (CCA) is a rare benign epidermal tumor that is difficult to diagnose by visual inspection. Conversely, its diagnosis by dermoscopy is relatively easy owing to the characteristic serpiginous arrangement of coiled vessels, sometimes described as the “string‐of‐pearls” formation. However, in few published reports, the dermoscopic diagnosis of mature CCA has been reported. Here, we report the histopathological and detailed dermoscopic findings of two CCA cases. Between...

Factors Associated with Survival in Complete Pathologic Response Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
The authors describe what factors are associated with survival in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer patients who achieve pathological complete response (pCR) through a National Cancer Data Base retrospective review. Clinical stage did not cause a statistically significant change in survival once patients achieved a pCR, increasing lymph node harvest demonstrated incremental improvement in survival, as did female sex, younger age, and the absence of neoadjuvant radiation.

Single-fraction radiosurgery versus fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy in patients with brain metastases: a comparative study
Abstract To compare the local control and brain radionecrosis in patients with brain metastasis primarily treated by single-fraction radiosurgery (SRS) or hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (HFSRT). Between January 2012 and December 2017, 179 patients with only 1–3 brain metastases (total: 287) primarily treated by SRS (14 Gy) or HFSRT (23.1 Gy in 3 fractions of 7.7 Gy, every other day) were retrospectively analyzed in a single center. Follow-up imaging data were available...

The Nose and Nasal Breathing in Sleep Apnea
Assessment of the nose is critical in evaluating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) because the nose plays an important role in the physiology of sleep by regulating nasal airway resistance and stimulating ventilation. Nasal obstruction is common in sleep apnea, contributes to OSA, and interferes with tolerance of OSA treatment with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or oral appliances. Medical treatment of nasal obstruction and rhinitis with nasal corticosteroid sprays is associated with improved...
